VDI Architect

On behalf of our enterprise client, Affinity Staffing is seeking a VDI architect in support of desktop Win 7 upgrade to various platforms including Win 10, workspace virtualization, SAAS, etc. The initiative is in part motivated by Microsoft’s new technology / operating system roadmap (SAC) and upcoming Win 7 end of life / support. FWS will be completing this upgrade in close partnership and collaboration with clinical and business stakeholders ensuring a strong focus on a positive user experience and optimized technical implementation. This is a complex upgrade and transition requiring deliberate planning, engagement, and implementation. Specifically the project is responsible for:
  1. Application Assessment, Remediation and Readiness
  2. Win 10 Business / Clinical Readiness & Deployment Support
  3. Deployment Planning & Readiness
  4. VDI & Other Technical Readiness
  5. Pipeline Discovery through to Deployment
Reporting to the Program Director Device and Technology Planning (FWS), the VDI Architect & Citrix is responsible for leading the design, development, configuration, piloting, remediation and deployment of technical virtual solutions (VDI and Citrix) and required applications in a Windows 10 / thin client / virtual desktop and HealthBC environment.
The Technical Architect VDI & Citrix will have direct supervisory responsibility over assigned technical resources including a Senior VDI Technical Specialist and a Thin Client Technical Specialist
The following services are expected:
  1. Lead the design, development, configuration, piloting and implementation of an expanded VDI and Hyperconverge VM solution to deploy applications in the new Win 10 / virtual desktop
  2. Ensure the solution is technically robust, financially sustainable and overall relevant to the clinical and operational business; prove solution feasibility through use of supporting documentation including business cases, requirements documents, UAT documents, etc.
  3. Provide technical solutioning support to the FWS Application Certification Team to enable application intake, testing, remediation, packaging, and deployment
  4. Lead the identification, analysis, troubleshooting and resolution of issues including conducting root cause analysis and identifying alternate technical solutions to meet defined clinical and business needs; produce comprehensive customer reports including strategies for optimization
  5. Engage clients and maintain ongoing communication to support and meet application VM testing requirements
  6. Collaborate with various IMITS technical teams, Service Providers and other external resources to ensure holistic end-to-end delivery of integrated virtual solutions to the client. This includes supporting project and change management activities, and implementing approved solutions and plans in a test environment
  7. Support the development of formalized solution documentation that add further insight and depth of knowledge to the solution area as well as other supporting documentation including but not limited to technical documentation, technical diagrams, training materials, and standard operating procedures
  8. Support the development of post implementation support models (e.g. internal versus managed service versus mixed model)
  9. Other duties as assigned
Specific Qualifications or Experience Required: 
We are looking for a senior technical resource with a strong background in implementing virtualization technologies and related IT infrastructure. Critical skillset include:
  • Must have experience with:
    • Windows 10 and Windows 7 application remediation
    • Implementing, maintaining and supporting VMWare / VMSphere, Hyperconverge, XenApp, Citrix, Nutanix, UniDesk and Uniprint technologies
  • Must have strong demonstrated track record of successfully deploying increasingly complex virtualization projects in large, complex organizations (e.g. healthcare, pharmaceuticals, financial services, etc.)
  • Relevant technical certifications in virtualization technologies including a minimum of 5-7 years of experience implementing technical projects
  • Excellent demonstrated record of technical issue resolution including root cause analysis, troubleshooting, and remediation as well as the ability to identify multiple alternate technical options for presentation to the client
  • Excellent communication skills (able to engage users and manage testing expectations)
  • Prior experience with infrastructure and systems design/test/implementation as well as defining core infrastructure requirements in areas such as Active Directory, servers, security and network architecture; IT lab administration is an asset
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced work environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills to effectively convey complex technical concepts with a diverse group of stakeholders, users, etc. in layman terms.
  • Working knowledge of/experience with Project Management methodologies and tools is an asset
